What Happens When You Outgrow HighLevel Memberships and Courses
HighLevel memberships and courses are a great option. It's included in standard HighLevel at no extra cost. But what happens when you need a feature that the platform doesn't offer?
What do you do?
We get calls from a lot of business owners using a Software as a Service (SAAS) learning platform like Kajabi, Thinktific, Teachable, LearnWorlds and, of course, High Level. They have a requirement their platform cannot deliver and they ask about the options for addressing them.
Let me share with you what I typically tell them to handle this.
What Kind of Requirements Might These Be?
When you first started with your platform, you were likely needing something that would get your online course up and running quickly. You were wanting an easy to use, do-it-yourself option. You wanted to keep expenses down and, hopefully, avoid having to hire a consultant or consulting team.
You made your selection and got going with it.
Now something happened and there's a requirement you platform can't support.. Here are some examples of requests people have that cannot be done with SAAS platforms:
- One site builder was fine offering courses on their platform and now they wanted to provide access to other resources. They wanted to provide members access to a library of recipes and other resources and they wanted those resources to be searchable. Their SAAS platform couldn't do that.
- A customer of ours provides content offering pharmacists continuing education credits to keep their credentials current. They had been communicating student course completion information to the governing bodies manually. Then their business grew and the manual process wasn't practical. They needed a direct system-to-system interface so they could communicate student completions automatically. Their platform couldn't do that.
- We had a propects with an opportunity to offer their course materials to thousands of students in a large school district. In order to offer their course curriculum to those students, they needed to comply with security requirements not supported by their platform.
- When selling a block of licenses to an organization, their administrators needed visibility to the progress made by their members. They needed answers questions like, "How many employees have completed the courses? How long is it taking them to go through the materials? Are they getting passing grades?" This couldn't be done with their SAAS solution.
These aren't shortcomings in these SAAS platforms. Membership features provided by platforms like HighLevel and others provide features they believe will attract customers to their platform. That doesn't include every possible requirement a course builder could want. What often happens as an course or membership grows is their needs grow. They end up needing feature not provided by their platform.
What Do You Do Now?
What do I recommend? Consider a Wordpress-based online course solution.
If you check our blog, you'll find my article series, What Online Course Platform Is Right for You. There I discuss how to select your online course platforms based on your needs. SAAS platforms like HighLevel's are discussed. I include a discussion on using Wordpress and a learning management system (LMS) as an option to address these shortcomings.
I discuss how running your online course on your own Wordpress platform with LearnDash can be used to address just about any requirement you might have.
Wordpress is used by over 40% of websites available online. With the addition of LearnDash, you have a solid learning management system (LMS) for building courses on Wordpress. If you combine that with a Wordpress membership plugin and a CRM like HighLevel, you have the ability to manage all sorts of varied requirements. You can provide your customers with a very complete solution.
Until recently, connecting Wordpress with HighLevel wasn't an option. We have released our Membresio plugin that provides the connectivity with HighLevel. It enables your course platform to make use of HighLevel features to:
- sell your course with HighLevel's e-commerce,
- trigger HighLevel automations to provide Wordpress/LearnDash course access and login credentials,
- trigger removing course access when/if a members stops paying for a subscription,
- use HighLevel automation (and other features) to manage members as they travel through your course, and
- much, much more.
Once your platform is configured, the sky's the limit on what you can provide your members.
Let me know if you'd like to set up a call with me to discuss this in more detail. You can also schedule a call with me using my calendar link. Let's see what option are available to you for enhancing your online course platform and taking it to the next level.
