Pathetic SEO Made Worse by Sluggish Website Speeds

Google's recent algorithm update increases the need for mobile device usability and website load speeds.  That means two things:

  • Your site needs to be mobile / tablet friendly.
  • You site needs to load quickly.

If not, your site will be penalized and rank lower in the searches.

Our team has been building mobile friendly responsive sites the last 12 to 18 months.  That means they all collapse elegantly so they're usable on smaller screens.  I wasn't worried about that.  I was concerned about website load speed.

A little over a year ago, we stopped recommending HostGator.  It had previously done well with more than adequate load speeds, but we had started seeing ours and other customer sites experiencing spotty or consistently poor speeds.  That's not something that's acceptable with our without Google changing their search algorithm.

So a year back we reviewed the web hosting vendors out there and selected Media Temple as our recommended vendor.  With Google's algorithm change, I figured it was time to reconfirm that.  Well  I lucked out.  My friend over at Memberium, David Bullock published a link to a review over at Review Signal benchmarking many of the top web hosting vendors.  You can click here to review the article.

What I was happy to see is that the reviewers used a really good approach and they found Media Temple, our preferred web hosting vendor to perform really well.  The review includes many of the vendors you would expect and is really frank about their finding.  If you are concerned about your website load speeds, review this article and see if there's another one you should be using.
