What LearnDash and the Online Course Industry Gets All Wrong
I wanted to address something I've been noticing more and more as I'm talking with new clients working to launch an online course. This is the case whether you’re using LearnDash or any of the available online learning solutions. And this applies to you,
- if you're building an online course,
- if you're building membership sites, or
- if you're working to increase your reach and impact by making your content4 available online.
The industry has set unrealistic expectations. The industry basically says, “We're giving you tools that anybody who runs a business can easily use on their own with no assistance. You can use our tools and our documentation to build a successful online course.”
That is not realistic. Even if you're extremely technical and have a lot of time on your hands, that’s now something you should take on yourself. If you do, you're going to waste a lot of time and that is at the expense of other tasks that are much more important for the your business.
Building a technology solution should NOT be at the top of a business owners personal to-do list. In addition to being the wrong priority, your end results will get you something that is less than optimal. It's not unlikely going to address your needs precisely, if you do get it work, and it’s not going to be making use of best practices. That’s only going to come from someone with experience in the field.
I know from personal experience how important it is to tap into outside expertise. Yearly back before I worked full time in my Larry Jacob Internet Marketing firm, I was in corporate America. I was starting as a side gig. I had gone out to a Keap user conference back when they called themselves Infusionsoft and I found this group. The guy pitching the membership said, “Do you have time to learn all we have learned on your own? Do you have that luxury? Do you have the time?”
I took this blind leap of faith, spending money I didn’t to join this mastermind. That decision completely transformed how I was building my business and transformed my life.
The first thing it got me was a way to solid offshore talent. That was a priceless. The second, and most important thing it got me was focus. At the time, I was hungry for business. I would take any project that came my way. I could because I am a programmer with strong tech skills. Members that were a part of that group gave me feedback. I could be more effective if I focused on a specific solution so I could become known and branded for that. With my technical background and lack of entrepreneurial experience, that was my blind spot. I’d like to say I got it immediately, but that’s not the case. This group had to drill it into me.
It’s what led me to focus my website building skills on building online course and membership sites. At the time, that meant serving Keap users needing them, but since then it has expanded to building Wordpress based learning sites making use of LearnDash and BuddyBoss and still serving the Keap/Memberium community of users.
I could NOT have done it without that group.
That’s why I have launched my private Facebook group at https://profitableonlinecoursebuilders.com/. It’s a place where I share my expertise in this space and pay forward what I got from the mastermind that helped me so much. Something I offer all members of my group is a free call. It’s not a call so I can sell you. It’s my way of offering expert insight on your membership or online course solution whether it's up and running on in the planning stages.
Feel free to join our group or just ask for a call with me. I’m happy to give you a hand. The link to my calendar is here for the taking http://www.scheduleyou.in/5mqPMmg6zn.
Cheers!
