LearnDash Developer Explains How LearnDash, Memberium, ActiveCampaign Do Their Job
I take it for granted. As a LearnDash developer, I work with LearnDash, Memberium, and ActiveCampaign all the time. I know what it does and how it works. A call with me latest LearnDash, Memberium, ActiveCampaign customer made it clear to me its not something everyone knows. After I explained it to him, he tells me, "You should record something on this. I Googled this and couldn't find a decent explanation anywhere."
I'm convinced. Here's my LearnDash developer expert explanation so everyone interested can get it without having to get with me directly.
NOTE: By the way, I do offer a free 30 minute call to anyone that asks. I'm happy to answer questions. NO OBLIGATION. Here's a link you can use.
LearnDash Developer on the Wordpress Side
LearnDash installs as a Wordpress plugin. It adds Learning Management Systems (LMS) features to Wordpress. What does that mean? It means that you can use it to create courses, lessons and sub-lessons, called topic by LearnDash, that together make up an online course your students can take. You can sell them using a Wordpress e-commerce platform like WooCommerce. Members purchase a course, a group of courses, a learning package, etc. and they get access to your materials. Just as important, people who haven't purchased your offer cannot get to it.
LearnDash and Wordpress together provide:
- navigation so people can access your content / course materials,
- navigation from lesson to lesson and topics,
- quizzes or assessments students can take to confirm they have learned what you taught them,
- badges and certificates to show they have worked your program,
- etc., etc., etc.
LearnDash Developer on the ActiveCampaign Side
ActiveCampaign is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM). If you are old as I am, you can think of this as your Rolodex or ACT application for tracking prospects, customers and your interactions with them. If you are younger, well...look it up.
CRMs have come a long way. In addition to the typical stuff you would expect, it enables you to:
- Email your contacts. You can send them a welcome message when they purchase, a message telling them a new course or lesson is available, a message asking them what they think of your program.
- Forms for gathering information. You can create forms your contacts fill out to sign up for your newsletter, gain access to free course or trial, provide you feedback, refer a friend,...
- Tag your contacts. If someone does something (i.e., fills out a form, clicks on an email, registers for or purchases a course), you can tag them so you can keep track of their activity. You can call this as intelligence to gauge their interest in something you offer, identify something that caught their attention andrespond to them accordingly.
- So, so, so much more.
The problem Memberium solves is how to get these systems talking to each other. A tag in ActiveCampaign is a lot more interesting if it can be used by Wordpress. Wouldn't it be nice if Wordpress could access an ActiveCampaign tag that signals a contact purchased a LearnDash course? That then allows them to log into your website and begin taking a course they just purchased. Another example would be an ActiveCampaign form. Wouldn't it be cool if it could tell Wordpress that a member is allowed to access and online newsletter you just published? Well what do you know. It does.
The sky's the limit here.
Memberium installs as a Wordpress plugin. You configure it so it has access to ActiveCampaign. It adds options to LearnDash courses so you can automatically enroll a student in a course after they buy. It allows LearnDash to signal ActiveCampaign when a student completes a course, passes a test, gets awarded a certificate. Then ActiveCampaign can take action using it's automations.
When someone completes a course, you can send them a congratulations message. When they pass a test, you can communicate to an outside system so the person gets educational credit to keep their professional credentials current. When they get a certificate, that can signal ActiveCampaign via reports it makes available to the student's instructor or employer to track their people's progress through you course material.
As a LearnDash developer, we've seen people use these three products together to accomplish what they need for their businesses and to fulfill the needs of their customers.
Hope this helps.
