Keap Developer Tells You How to Use Email Marketing Like a Pro – Part 2
Part 1 of this Keap developer article on emailing like a pro ran long. Here is the continuation of it. Visit part 1 which gives you the first two pieces of advice. Here are the remaining seven.
Keap Developer Advice #3: Focus on Subject Lines and Preview Text
The subject line and the preview text seen when your message arrives in your inbox is the first thing people see when your message arrives. A lot of people write an article or record a video and then leave the subject line for last. Then they rush and don't put a lot of effort into it. BIG MISTAKE. The subject line must grab the readers attention. If not, all the work you put into your article goes to waste since no one will ever see it.
You have to slant your subject lines and preview text so it's focused on what your target audience wants. It has to peek their interest. Make it personal. Add something that makes it urgent.
Keap Develop Advice #4: Fancy Email Templates are Bad
When someone visits their email inbox, they aren't going through tons and tons of very pretty email messages with images and interesting formatting. No. They are looking through their correspondence with people they know. And what do most people's messages look like. They are plan black text on a white background.
Very simple.
Format your messages so they look like a message you would typically receive in your inbox. Standout because you have a sharp subject line. Do NOT call attention to yourself by using formatting that only tells the reader, "Stay away. This is spam."
Kaap Developer Advice #5: Connect with Your Reader
You absolutely MUST produce content that connects with something your reader wants. This means understanding their needs, interests, and pain points, and creating content that provides value and solves their problems.
The best email messages contains educational content. It's low on salesmanship. Keep your content fresh and engaging, while also maintaining a consistent tone and brand voice
Keap Developer Advice #6: Nurture Your Email List Using Automation
Automation is powerful. Setting up automated workflows and drip campaigns, (also known as autoresponders) you can nurture leads and customers over time, without having to manually send each email.
You can build an automated welcome series for new subscribers. Introduce yourself and your business. Offer a discount on their first purchase. Make sure to provide you with helpful information or resources.

Keap Developer Advice #7: Watch Your Email Campaigns Closely
To ensure that your email marketing efforts are effective, it's important to regularly test and analyze your email campaigns. This can involve A/B testing different elements of your emails, such as subject lines, content, or calls-to-action, to see what resonates best with your audience. This is marketing 101 at its core.
You can also track key metrics such as open rates, click-through rates, and conversions to determine the success of your campaigns. This data can help you optimize your email marketing strategy over time and achieve a higher ROI.
Keap Developer Advice #8: Don't Ignore Email Marketing Laws and Regulations
You MUST comply with email marketing laws and regulations. Don't buy a list and start emailing them. Make sure and obtain consent from your subscribers before sending them emails. All your messages should include an unsubscribe link. (This is provided by any email marketing platform you use.)
People will unsubscribe, but don't take it like an insult. You aren't the right match for every person on the Internet. If they don't want to hear from you, that's OK.
By following these best practices and incorporating these strategies into your email marketing efforts, you can use email marketing like a pro and achieve greater success for your local business.
Keap Developer Advice #9: Measure your ROI
Measuring email marketing ROI is a must to understanding the impact of your campaigns and determining whether they are achieving your business goals. After all, you want to know if your email marketing efforts are paying off or not. It can also help you make informed decisions about future investments and optimize your email marketing strategy for maximum impact.
To measure email marketing ROI, it's important to track key metrics that indicate the impact of your campaigns. These metrics include:
- Open rates: This metric measures the percentage of subscribers who open your email. A high open rate can indicate a compelling subject line and preview text that entice subscribers to read your message.
- Click-through rates: This metric measures the percentage of subscribers who click on a link in your email. A high click-through rate can indicate engaging content and a clear call-to-action that encourages subscribers to take action.
- Conversion rates: This metric measures the percentage of subscribers who take a desired action, such as making a purchase or filling out a form. A high conversion rate indicates that your email campaign is effective in driving the desired action.
- Revenue generated: This metric measures the amount of revenue generated by your email campaigns. By tracking revenue, you can determine the return on investment of your email marketing efforts and make informed decisions about future investments.
To track these metrics, you can use email marketing software that provides analytics and reporting features, such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or Campaign Monitor. These tools can provide insights into your email campaigns' performance, allowing you to make data-driven decisions about your email marketing strategy.
