As time goes by, the head takes over. If they haven't been engaged with your materials, and this can happen even if you have great content, they lose that "feeling." Things of the head like the monthly hit on their credit card, their inability to cut away from other things and use your materials take over that that becomes the driver.
Here's some advice for course builders and this applies whether you are using Memberium, Infusionsoft, LearnDash or any other membership or e-learning platform. You have to have a set cancellation process. It cannot just be a button with automation. It should takes into consideration why they bought, what has happened since then and how you can get them back to where they were. You have to make it relevant to their heart.
